Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival & Getting Acquainted  |  August 21, 2025

  • Arrive by Ferry: Take the Shepler’s Ferry from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island. Ferries are frequent, and the ride offers a beautiful view of the Straits of Mackinac.
  • Arrival at the Island: Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by the picturesque harbor and the distinct sound of horse-drawn carriages. There are no motorized vehicles on the island, so prepare for a slower pace! You can either take a “taxi” to the hotel or simply stretch your legs for a 10 min walk.
  • Check into the legendary Grand Hotel, where timeless elegance meets modern comfort. Relax and explore the hotel’s beautiful grounds, including the world-famous front porch. Check in is 4pm.
  • First Gathering: We’ll gather on the world’s longest porch for a welcome reception followed by dinner in The Grand Hotel’s Dining Room. This iconic fine dining experience offers sweeping views of the island, Straits of Mackinac, and the Majestic Mackinac Bridge (The Mighty Mac)!
  • We know you traveled all day and may be tired after dinner but for you late night folks – we’ll have a special showing of “Somewhere in Time” for you to enjoy!

Day 2  |  August 22, 2025

  • Begin your exploration with a visit to Fort Mackinac, a historic military outpost dating back to 1780. The fort offers incredible views of the island and harbor. Learn about the island’s role in the War of 1812 and its evolution through interactive exhibits, guided tours, and reenactments.
  • Walk along the Fort’s Paths: After exploring the fort, take a short walk along the scenic paths around the area that overlook the bay.
  • Stroll Down Main Street: The colorful Victorian storefronts house a variety of unique shops, including fudge shops (a must-try while on the island), boutiques, and art galleries and we’ll enjoy lunch at the Pink Pony. Located on the waterfront, it is a popular spot for casual dining. It’s great for enjoying a seafood lunch or a burger with a lovely view of the harbor.
  • Take a Carriage Tour through Mackinac Island State Park seeing miles of scenic trails with a stop at Arch Rock, one of Mackinac Island’s most famous natural features.
  • You’ll be pleased by a beautiful spot for dinner enjoying classic Mackinac Island fare like whitefish, pasties, or a hearty salad while taking in the view of the marina and watching the sunset.

Day 3  |  August 23, 2025

  • Become a real fudgie by participating in a fudge making demo.
  • Spend the afternoon at leisure, taking in the island’s peaceful ambiance or enjoying the Grand Hotel’s amenities, such as the outdoor pool or garden or perhaps select an option activity such as the traditional Afternoon Tea in the Parlor of the Grand Hotel or renting a bicycle. Mackinac Island is known for its bike-friendly paths. Rent a bike (or tandem bike) from one of the shops on Main Street and begin your ride around the island.
  • Enjoy resting on the America’s largest front porch!
  • Relish your final evening with a special farewell dinner featuring exquisite cuisine and a toast to the unforgettable memories made on this journey.
